How to Store Lyophilized Research Peptides

Best practices for storing lyophilized and reconstituted research peptides: temperature, light, moisture and handling tips for Canadian labs.

Why peptides are shipped lyophilized

Lyophilization (freeze-drying) removes water from a peptide, leaving a stable powder. Without water, the reactions that break peptides down slow dramatically, which is why vials travel well across Canada.

Storing unopened vials

Keep lyophilized vials cold, dry and away from light. Refrigeration is suitable for short-term storage, and freezing is generally preferred for longer periods.

Allow a cold vial to reach room temperature before opening it, so moisture from the air does not condense inside.

After reconstitution

Once a peptide is dissolved, it becomes far less stable. Keep reconstituted solutions refrigerated, protect them from light and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Frequently asked questions

Should lyophilized peptides be refrigerated?

Yes. Cold, dry and dark storage helps preserve lyophilized peptides. Freezing is generally used for longer-term storage.

Can I refreeze a reconstituted peptide?

Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can degrade peptides, so they are best avoided.
